SCTC not running USTA teams this first season

The SCTC Board of Directors has voted to skip entering any USTA teams for their first debut season since Covid restrictions a year ago.  Why?

1. Limited court availability.  Carlmont and other high school courts nearby are not accepting reservations now, and there's no date for when they might resume rentals. We must be able to host 5-line matches, and split starts at Arguello would severely limit the number of teams.

2. Arguello courts must be repaired.  The cracks are dangerous and do not meet USTA match requirements.  Repairs will take the courts off line for a minimum of 2 or 3 weeks, and we may not be able to get that done before USTA matches begin.

3. This first USTA season is only for 8 weeks.  That translates to very few play opportunities per team member, given the typical team size.  Calculate for yourself the cost per match.

4. The member survey showed that 89% of respondents wanted to continue playing in club leagues, even after USTA started running leagues again.

5. There will be another USTA season beginning late June, in synchrony with our club season. We will revisit this issue for the summer season.

An extremely popular offering of SCTC is the opportunity for players to hone and improve their skills, while enjoying great camaraderie and sportsmanship, by participating in competitive USTA Leagues for singles, doubles and mixed doubles, correctly matched to their current level of play!  Leagues are also provided with age differentiation age 40+, 55+ and 65+ and more!  There are different leagues running throughout the year so you are only a few months away from a new league starting. Check out the USTA calendar to see what leagues will be next up.

USTA NorCal League Tennis

USTA is the country's largest recreational tennis league, providing organized, structured team matches for more than 30,000 men and women of all ability levels. In Northern California, tennis is an integral part of life and our teams can be found on courts in the Bay Area and Sacramento, Santa Clara to Marin to Mendocino Counties, as far north as Redding and as far south as Fresno. Teams are set up according to NTRP rating, so you're always sure that you'll be facing off against someone of comparable ability. That keeps the competition lively and the atmosphere social. And as part of a team, you've got a built-in support entourage that few pros can match.

Whether you're a beginner or you're in a league of your own, we've got a team for players like you. Age is based on the year of the league example 40 league you could join at 39 but must turn 40 during the Team year of play

USTA Adult League Tennis is for men and women 18 years of age and older.  Each season includes local play and top teams can advance to area championships, sectional championships, with competition culminating in a national championship for the best teams. NTRP levels include 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5 and Open divisions. Team match format consists of two singles matches and three doubles matches, except for the 2.5, 5.0, 5.5 and Open divisions, which play one singles match and two doubles matches.

USTA Mixed Doubles League is for men and women 18 years of age and older with District, Sectional and Regional championships. Teams are developed with a combined rating of 7.0, 8.0, 9.0, 10.0 for each doubles partnership. Total NTRP rating cannot exceed level of team (i.e., 7.0 team could be a combination of two 3.5 players, one 4.0 partner and one 3.0 partner or one player a 3.0 and partner a 3.5). Format consists of three doubles matches.

40 League: 2 singles and 3 doubles are played during the regular season.  Districts, Sectionals and Nationals are all 2 singles and 3 doubles.

55 League is for men and women 55 years of age and older with Sectional and National championships. NTRP combined levels include 6.0, 7.0, 8.0 and 9.0. Team match format consists of three doubles matches.
