New league play has started!

The new round of events has started, but there are a few slots left in two of the leagues, for 4.0+ men:

3 slots for men available in the Mixed Doubles 8.0 - Saturdays 7:00 - 10:00 pm event through 6/26/21

4 slots for men available in the Mens 4.5 - Saturdays 1:00 - 3:00 pm event through 6/26/21

USTA Leagues postponed - SCTC will skip fielding teams until at least June.

Norcal USTA has once again announced that the planned start of Adult Leagues will be delayed, due to Covid considerations and making sure that all member organizations are able to run matches with proper precautions. The original date for start of match play was May 10. No alternate start date has been set.

Meanwhile, the SCTC Board of Directors had voted to skip entering any USTA teams for the May 10 start since Covid restrictions a year ago. Why?

1. Limited court availability. Carlmont and other high school courts nearby are not accepting reservations now, and there's no date for when they might resume rentals. We must be able to host 5-line matches, and split-starts at Arguello would severely limit the number of teams.

2. The Arguello courts must be repaired. The cracks are dangerous and do not meet USTA match requirements, as well as being hazardous for club events.  Repairs will take the courts off line for a minimum of 2 or 3 weeks, and we may not be able to get that done before USTA matches begin.

3. This first USTA season is only for 8 weeks. That translates to very few play opportunities per team member, given the typical team size. Calculate for yourself the cost per match.

4. The member survey showed that 89% of respondents wanted to continue playing in club leagues, even after USTA started running leagues again.

5. We will revisit this issue for the summer season. In the meantime, check out our club events (don't forget about the free 6.0 and 7.0 mixed events on Friday evenings and Saturday afternoons!).

Current members are invited to play!

Except for our drop-ins, you must be a current member to join and play in SCTC events, including the new round of leagues. Forward this to your friends so that they can join or renew their membership online - click on "Membership" in the menu on the left side of the SCTC home page and scroll to the bottom to click on "Edit your membership profile".  When your profile appears, click on the box to the right that says "Renew until 1 January 2022", then follow the prompts. Please also review your contact and profile info and make any necessary updates. Get in touch with Tami, our Membership Director at if you have any questions.

Some logistics

Guided by USTA's "Code", SCTC has adopted a sporstmanlike conduct policy that you can find here on our website.
Please take a look and renew your commitment to making the club a fun and welcoming group of tennis lovers!

Lean and Green

Did you know that our courts at Arguello have no paid custodian (and the school and parks/rec don't send anyone there either) and that your fellow event coordinators and other volunteers do the dirty work of empyting recycle and trash bins? We also take care of all court maintenance like installing and repairing the court windscreens.

We are asking that all SCTC members do their part by:

1) Going green and bringing your own refillable water bottle or flask

2) Disposing of plastic beverage bottles and tennis ball containers in the blue recycle bin or carrying these items out of the courts to discard at home. Please also use the trash bins appropriately and keep our courts mess-free!

3) Using the new green ball bin hanging on the fence by court 1 to recycle your used tennis balls. If you'd like to help with packaging and sending the balls for recycling or have any questions, ask Hugh at

 SCTC Payment policy

We are a paper-free club! Therefore, we do NOT accept checks for membership renewals or event registrations. Please pay online through our simple Affinipay system or by bank transfer. Also, as a 501(c)7, we are not a charity, so cannot accept donations. Through our many fundraising efforts over the years, we have supported charities such as Samaritan House, CORA, and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Interested in being a coordinator or captain for a league event?

It's important to us to continue to grow the leadership of the club, and a great way to do this is to find members who are interested in stepping up to coordinate or captain - and mentor them. Reach out to one of us on the Board, and we'll help get you going for the next session!

Safe Play Policies

Be considerate of other players. Do NOT play:

1. If you feel ill, even with mild symptoms

2. if you have been exposed within the last 14 days to someone who has tested positive

3. if you have traveled outside the immediate area in the last 7-10 days.

SCTC is committed to the safety and health of our members. The following rules apply if you participate in club events:

1. Do not come onto the courts until the appointed time of event.

2. Mask up as you exit your vehicle and until you are playing on court.

3. Maintain a social distance of 6 feet, including during turnovers. Place bags apart on the sidelines. Do not huddle with your partner to strategize. Instead, both players face the back court, standing apart, while speaking to each other.

4. Bring a new can of balls, marked as yours, and do not touch balls of others who are serving; use your foot or racquet to return balls. Or, you can wear a glove on your nondominant hand to handle balls. Use hand sanitizer after games.

5. Mask up again once play is completed. We recommend leaving the facility after you play If you stay as a spectator, you must wear a mask and maintain social distancing. No sharing food or drink.
